Relocating to Florida

Why St. Johns County is One of the Best Places to Live

Relocating to Florida is exciting-but with so many different regions, lifestyles, and communities to choose from, knowing where to start can feel overwhelming.

As a St Johns County Realtor® and someone who has personally relocated multiple times and ultimately chose Northeast Florida for my own family, I understand how much more goes into a move than just finding a house.

It’s about finding the right lifestyle, the right community, and the right fit.

And for many families-especially those coming from places like Southern California-Northeast Florida offers a balance that can be hard to find elsewhere.

Why Northeast Florida?

Florida has a lot to offer, but not every part of the state feels the same.

As a Northeast Florida Realtor, I often help clients discover that this region offers the balance they’ve been looking for-especially those relocating from California and other coastal markets.

Northeast Florida offers a unique blend of coastal living, strong communities, excellent schools, and a slower, more grounded pace of life-without some of the challenges that can come with other Florida markets.

Here, you’ll find:

  • Beautiful beaches and year-round outdoor living
  • Strong family-centered communities
  • Top-rated schools in St. Johns County
  • Less congestion than South Florida
  • Milder temperatures compared to South Florida
  • Easy access to Jacksonville, St. Augustine, and Ponte Vedra
  • A growing market with strong long-term value

For many buyers, it feels like the best balance Florida has to offer.

A Great Fit for Southern Californians

As someone originally from California, I understand what many West Coast buyers are looking for.

A lot of my clients relocating from Southern California want:

  • proximity to the ocean
  • an active outdoor lifestyle
  • beautiful homes and communities
  • excellent schools
  • family-focused living
  • strong sense of community
  • lower cost of living
  • lower taxes
  • more home for their money

Northeast Florida offers all of that. St. Johns County offers much of that same lifestyle appeal-but often with more space, less congestion, and a slower, more grounded pace of life.

As a Florida Realtor who has made that transition myself, I understand both the practical and emotional side of relocating.

For many of my clients, it feels like a natural next step.

Why St. Johns County?

St. Johns County has become one of the fastest-growing and most desirable counties in Florida for a reason.

Located just south of Jacksonville and home to communities like Nocatee, Ponte Vedra Beach, Neptune Beach, Jax Beach, St. Augustine, and St. Johns, it offers a unique blend of coastal living, strong schools, and long-term value.

A few things that make it stand out:

  • Ranked among Florida’s top public school districts year after year
  • Median household income over $109,000, well above state average
  • One of Florida’s fastest-growing counties, with continued strong demand
  • Home to historic St. Augustine, the nation’s oldest city
  • Over 40 miles of coastline, including Ponte Vedra Beach and Vilano Beach
  • Strong family-centered communities and newer master-planned neighborhoods

For golf lovers, St. Johns County is also home to TPC Sawgrass, one of the most iconic golf courses in the world and home of The Players Championship, as well as the PGA Tour headquarters. The area has become synonymous with championship golf, luxury communities, and an elevated coastal lifestyle.

What many people love most is that St. Johns County offers space to breathe.

It feels established, safe, and community-focused-without feeling overly crowded or chaotic.

What to Consider Before Moving to Florida

Before relocating, there are a few important things to think through:

  • Insurance costs and flood zones
  • HOA and CDD fees
  • New construction vs resale
  • School zoning
  • Commute and traffic patterns
  • Lifestyle priorities (beach, golf, community, walkability)

Working with a local Realtor can make a big difference when navigating these details.

Every neighborhood and community is different, and understanding those details upfront can make the transition much smoother.

Whether you’re moving from California or anywhere else, my goal as your First Coast Realtor is to make the process feel clear, honest, and far less stressful.

As someone who has been through it myself, I understand that finding the right home is only part of the process.

Finding the right fit matters just as much.
